“The Hemlock Cup: Socrates, Athens and the search for the good life”

Only half way through and I am already inspired; both by Socrates and Bettany Hughes. She has beautifully illustrated the ins and outs of Socrates, his life, his city and his mind. If any of you are remotely interested in philosophy, 5th century Athens, or even sociology (in terms of how western society came to be) then give this book a read. I don’t believe you can really begin to understand the world around you now until you have looked into what led to its development. You even have to opportunity to learn a snippet or two of ancient Greek, the root of words still spoken today. Fascinating, just fascinating.
